Work since ORDINARY PEOPLE, McGillis fulfills the promise of WITNESS, and together they become a pure, heavenly couple looking as if they were destined to be together forever. Structured in a nontraditional manner and broken into tableaux that span 50 years, the film is held together by the wonderful performances of Hutton and McGillis. Director Alan Rudolph concentrates on the characters and his own imagination. Looking more like an Americanized homage to the spirit of Jean Cocteau or the French New Wave, MADE IN HEAVEN is both technically MADE IN HEAVEN concerns two souls (Timothy Hutton, Kelly McGillis) who fall in love in Heaven, are separated, and eventually reunite on Earth. JORDAN HEAVEN CAN WAIT or ANGEL ON MY SHOULDER in which characters move freely from Heaven to Earth, falling into a seemingly impossible love It is essentially a genre picture on the order of HERE COMES MR. MADE IN HEAVEN is a wholly romantic fantasy with almost no contact with realism.
